ABOUT

Kaveen Jhawar is from a close-knit family based in Southern California. The wisdom of her elders shaped the way she views the world and gave her the chance to see it from many different perspectives. Growing up with her grandparents gave her insight into seeing our loved ones age, struggle physically, and deal with multiple medical issues. She noticed them facing challenges as they tried to navigate their way through the complex medical system.

From an early age, Kaveen carried a dream to create change in the world—to touch the lives of individuals. As she matured, she realized there was no reason to begin that journey. She watched as members of her family dealt with chronic health issues and navigated the convoluted medical system. Complex issues, such as language barriers, medical myths, and a lack of education, get in the way of patients receiving the medical care they deserve.

In response, she decided to form a health care initiative that wasn’t afraid to address the nitty-gritty experiences of her community members. She addresses both the spread of medical misinformation and the lack of cultural competency, which leads to a disconnect between doctors and patients.

There is a cultural gap in Kaveen’s community, blocking wonderful people from receiving the medical care they deserve. Mariposa Health initiative is not just an organization, but an essential step towards a brighter, healthier future.
